The History Of Superior beverage Group
Superior Beverage Group is a family-owned business with roots dating back to 1922 when Marion N. Antonucci formed the Superior Wholesale Grocery Company in Youngstown, Ohio. Shortly after the depression, Marion decided to go into the wholesale beer and wine business and established the Superior Beverage Company. From the late 1940’s until 1984, the company prospered under the leadership of Marion’s son, John (Jack) R. Antonucci.
In 1984, Jack was recognized by Time Magazine with the “Distinguished Beverage Wholesaler Award”. Jack presently serves as Chairman Emeritus and is retired, living in Florida.
Since that time, Superior Beverage Group has been guided through an aggressive period of growth and consolidation by current Chairman, John M. Antonucci, representing the third generation of leadership. During the past 25 years, the company has expanded from its Youngstown roots into several new markets including: Akron, Steubenville, Canton, Lorain, Columbus and Cleveland. Each subsequent venture has provided comprehensive market insight and product knowledge, as well as valuable transition experience, contributing to a more capable organization.
Looking ahead, Superior Beverage Group will continue to grow its core business by employing the same fundamental values established in 1922. With a family-based succession plan already in place, Superior Beverage has taken steps to ensure that its vision, heritage and passion are a part of daily operations for the next 90 years.
